Avis is Vice President and Senior Underwriting Counsel for Commonwealth Land Title’s New York National Commercial Services (NCS) operation. In her current role, she serves as primary liaison between attorney clients and local title offices nationwide underwriting title insurance policies in complex multi-million and billion-dollar commercial transactions. Avis coordinates and supervises all aspects of single and multi-site national commercial real estate closings, including clearance of title defects, escrow and closing services, settlement and funding, and issuance of title policies. She conducts review of title commitments and surveys, title documents, mechanic’s lien and other title issues and advises on mortgage tax, transfer tax, insurability and recordability of title documents and other aspects of New York and nationwide title closings.

Prior to joining the NCS, Avis was a real estate associate at a prominent Jamaican law firm. She is a recipient of the 2001 Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar Award for academic excellence from Columbia University School of Law.
